February Classes

CCPI – Level 1 Installer Course:
The two-day classroom based course equips individuals currently employed in the concrete paver installer industry with classroom training to properly install interlocking concrete paving systems. In addition, participants have the opportunity to pursue certification and industry recognition.  A continental breakfast and lunch will be served both days.
We will be offering this course in 2 locations:

PICP – Permeable Installer Course:
This one-day classroom based course trains experienced contractors about the differences of installing PICP vs. regular interlocking concrete pavement systems.  The course is aimed at contractors who are presently doing residential and/or commercial concrete pavement installations and wish to move into the permeable pavement market.
This year we will be offering this course during the NorCal Landscape & Nursery show in conjunction with support from CLCA!

Segmental Retaining Wall Course

SRW Course December 6 in Campbell – Learn how to build segmental retaining walls (SRW) that perform well over time. This program teaches hardscape contractors and installers essential concepts related to the design, construction and performance of SRWs, providing the knowledge you need to install quality walls that meet customer expectations and ensure your long-term success. Learn about SRW installation guidelines, materials, soils, compaction and water, planning, estimating, safety and equipment selection.

Certification:
The Certified SRW Installer (CSRWI) Program is also available to each candidate who completes the SRW Installer Course (or equivalent SRW-installation-related education) and passes a written examination is certified as a Certified SRW Installer (CSRWI). This credential is highly valued by consumers.

Great time at Casino Night

November 4th – Casino Night was a blast, enjoyed by almost 60 of our industry colleagues!

The night started off with wood-fired pizza’s by Peninsula Building Material in their Mountain View Design Center.  After everyone had a bit to eat and a refreshing drink, the crowd hit the casino tables and had a great time playing Craps, Roulette, and Black Jack.

Award winners will be announced at a presentation on November 4th at our Annual Casino Night at
Peninsula Building Materials Mountain View Design Center from 7:00 – 10:00pm.

We will recognize companies in 3 categories:

  • Small residential under 2000 sq ft
  • Large residential over 2000 sq ft
  • Commercial project

The awards will recognize outstanding hardscape projects by contractors in commercial and residential applications who are members of the Northern California Chapter. These projects may include but are not limited to walkways, patios, driveways, plazas, parking lots, roadways, etc. Award winners will be featured in a press release, our chapter newsletter, and on our website.

To enter, you will need to submit the following information by Friday, October 13:

9th Annual Sporting Clays Classic

Come shoot with us! This will be a 4 person team competition with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards.  The sporting clays course is a ten shot, ten station layout (100 total shots) with differing targets at each station.

There are two things we hope to accomplish each year at our event:

  • To provide you with a warm-up for the up-coming duck and pheasant season – of course, if you are fortunate enough to catch dove season, then you’re already in mid-season form and you don’t have any excuses when you miss your clays.
  • To inform you, the paver community, on the benefits of ICPI membership…

All you need to do is bring your appetite, your shot gun, and shells.

  • There are a limited number of shotguns available for rental
  • If you are bringing your own ammunition, no loads larger than 7 ½.
  • Shells are available for purchase at the range
  • Eye and ear protection is mandatory.

Spaces are limited and are “first to respond, first to get your spot” basis. We will limit the entries to 60 people.

2016 Recap – First place Regional / 4th Place National Champions
1st-placeLR Landscaping of Lincoln, CA with team members Lee Reveles, Daniel Preciado, Elmer Casasola

CA Regional Installer Team wins 4th Place out of 24 teams from across the United States & Canada.

In the preliminary round each team was given 60 minutes to construct an 8 ft x 10 ft interlocking concrete patio with a small seat wall as detailed in the drawings provided to each team. Each installation was judged based on criteria related to safety, craftsmanship and compliance to industry best practices. The teams with the top four scores moved on to the final championship round where they were given 90 minutes to construct their own creative design.

Fourth place was awarded to LR Landscaping of Lincoln, CA with team members Lee Reveles, Daniel Preciado, Elmer Casasola. In the championship round they scored 378 points.

 

Championship format

The competition will have 2 rounds, each using clay pavers, concrete pavers and wall units. To help teams get started, at the beginning of each round the compacted DGA base will be provided.

The Regional Competition will be held Saturday, August 26 in San Jose.  For the first round, teams will be asked to construct an 8’ x 10’ patio area according to a very detailed drawing within 60 minutes.

For the second round, teams will be asked to use all three of the materials provided to construct an 8’ x 10’ patio within 90 minutes based on their own creative design.

  1. Fabulous Prizes – The Regional Champions will be sponsored to represent and compete in the HNA 2016 Installer Championship where they will compete for further prizes at the National Level, as well as receiving, recognition in various media including ICPI-NCC Newsletter, website and awards program.

The “Runner Up” or second place team will receive an iQ handheld saw and the 3rd place team will receive iQ saw blades.

  1. Tools provided – We will provide all the construction materials and these tools for your use: forward plate compactor, 14-inch masonry saw with fully-integrated dust collection. Each team must bring their own personal safety equipment, screed rails, screed board, d-handled square shovel, wheelbarrow and other small hand tools they need such as measuring tapes, etc.
  2. Bragging rights for a full year!

Annual Golf Tournament

ICPI-NCC will hold our 12th Annual Golf Tournament again at Eagle Vine Vineyard & Golf Club in Napa on Friday, June 9, 2017.  This a premier golf course situated in the foothills with vineyards views in every direction.  Eagle Vine Vineyard & Golf Club has been voted the 2nd Best Golf Course by the San Francisco Gate. The course is an hour away from Sacramento, San Francisco and Santa Rosa – you can’t go wrong with a great day out golfing in Napa Valley!!
